Recipient of the Ministry of Education’s Contribution to Education Award in 2021.
Donated 500,000 TWD in scholarships to the College of Management.

The idea behind the scholarship arose from the journey of becoming a creator and holder of wealth and resources. It's not just about creating revenue but also managing expenses carefully. Frugality is part of my nature, so initially, I wondered if I could part with such a large sum at once. After much contemplation, I solidified my belief in giving. Upon introspection, I realized this desire to give stemmed from genuine love and compassion, and I'm grateful for everyone who has helped me build this wealth. When I discussed it with my wife, I nervously shared that I had something to discuss, and she seemed concerned. I said, "I'd like to donate 500,000 TWD to Yuan Ze University to set up a scholarship." She was surprised, wondering if it was necessary to give so much. I needed to figure out how to respond. After silence, she sensed my feelings and said kindly, "If it's what you want to do, then go for it." I was incredibly moved by her encouragement and my willingness to act, and I felt tears of gratitude. Her support transformed my decision into action.

The idea of establishing the "Deshin Furniture Yuan Ze University College of Management — Deshin Excellence Scholarship" was inspired by my father's business philosophy. He previously ran a large rice shop, Deshing Rice Shop. During those difficult economic times, when neighbors couldn't afford rice, he often gave it to them for free. Not only did he fill their stomachs, but he also warmed their hearts. He ran his business with integrity and sincerity, setting an excellent example for us, the second generation. In 1982, Deshin Rice Shop shifted to furniture and was renamed Deshin Furniture. The scholarship is named after a line from the Tang Dynasty poet Liu Yuxi's "The Humble Room," emphasizing noble character. The aim is to uphold virtues like integrity and kindness, encourage young people never to let their aspirations falter even in hardship, and help underprivileged yet outstanding students in the College of Management complete their studies. They aim to face challenges with a positive attitude and love, believing they can overcome any difficulty.

It is the third year of the donation. Reflecting on the past two years for an alumni publication, I realized that while it may seem like a sacrifice, it's a gain. The monetary value means much to each scholarship recipient, offering encouragement and motivation. When your heart is filled with love, it shapes your inner and outer worlds. Even though the pandemic presented challenges, the focus on domestic demand has benefited the business, leading to a 15% growth against the trend, with record-high revenues. It feels like an example of "good deeds bring good fortune," or perhaps the law of attraction, where what you give returns to you in different forms. I want to share my mindset about giving and the correct understanding of it. Giving is not sacrificing. So, what's the difference? Giving is joyful, empowering, willingly accepted by the other party, unconditional, valuable, and allows both sides to grow. Let's pursue perfection together without needing everything to be flawless. Strive to improve without complacency, recognizing there's always room for growth. Let's all keep moving forward together.
